ā€œDJI Files Lawsuit to Overturn FCC Ban on Foreign Dronesā€šŸšØ

Chinese drone manufacturer DJI has filed a lawsuit challenging a December 2025 decision by the Federal Communications Commission that effectively bans foreign-made drones and components from the U.S. market.

The FCC recently added DJI and other foreign drone makers to its ā€œCovered List,ā€ designating their products as equipment that allegedly poses ā€œan unacceptable risk to the national security of the United States.ā€ The move prevents these companies from operating freely in the American market and restricts the sale and approval of their technology.

In its legal filing with the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, DJI argues the ruling has caused significant harm to its business and exceeded the agency’s legal authority. The company claims the FCC failed to follow required procedures and violated constitutional protections under the Fifth Amendment when it added DJI’s products to the list.

A DJI spokesperson stated that the FCC has not identified any specific national security threat linked to its products. The company also says it was never given a meaningful opportunity to respond to or refute the concerns before the decision was finalized, calling the process both procedurally and substantively flawed.

The FCC’s action comes at a time when the U.S. is working to expand its domestic drone industry, particularly as the military accelerates efforts to strengthen drone capabilities amid rising global tensions. The outcome of this case could have major implications for international tech firms, national security policy, and the future of the American drone market.
