āAnthropic Overtakes OpenAI in Enterprise AI Spending Raceā šØ
Anthropic is quickly emerging as a dominant force in the enterprise AI market, surpassing OpenAI in business spending for the first time.
According to new data from Ramp, Anthropic captured 37% of tracked generative-AI software spending in Q1, edging out OpenAIās 33%. The shift signals a meaningful change in how companies are allocating budgets in the rapidly evolving AI space.
Despite the spending lead, OpenAI still dominates overall adoption, with 81% of AI buyers using its tools compared to Anthropicās fast-rising 63%. But the gap is closing ā and quickly.
Anthropicās growth is being driven by its enterprise-focused tools like Claude Code and Cowork, which are gaining traction among less technical users and businesses seeking easier onboarding. Its strategy of targeting smaller contracts and broader accessibility appears to be paying off, especially with first-time AI buyers.
Meanwhile, the broader market is booming. More than half of Rampās customers are now paying for AI tools, a sharp jump from just 18% two years ago ā highlighting how fast generative AI is becoming a standard business expense.
There are still challenges ahead. Anthropic recently lost momentum with a major customer after the U.S. government shifted toward OpenAI solutions. Still, the companyās rapid rise suggests itās not just competing ā itās reshaping the enterprise AI landscape.
The AI race isnāt slowing down ā itās just getting more competitive.
