âTexas Sues Netflix Over Alleged Data Collection and âAddictiveâ Designâ đ¨đ¨đ¨
Netflix is facing a major lawsuit from the state of Texas, which accuses the streaming giant of secretly collecting user data and designing its platform to keep viewers hooked â including children.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton claims Netflix created a massive âbehavioral-surveillance programâ that tracks usersâ habits, mines personal data, and allegedly shares valuable insights with advertising partners.
The lawsuit specifically targets features like autoplay, arguing they were intentionally built to increase screen time and dependency. One line from the filing states: âWhen you watch Netflix, Netflix watches you.â
Texas is seeking penalties of up to $10,000 per violation under consumer protection laws, with even larger fines tied to cases involving users over age 65.
Netflix has not yet publicly responded to the allegations.
