āFord Shares Slip After Major Fire Erupts at New York Novelis Aluminum Plantā šØšØšØ
FordF $12.54 (-2.79%) shares fell more than 2% Thursday morning after reports surfaced of another large fire at the Novelis aluminum plant in Oswego County, New York ā a critical supplier that provides roughly 40% of the aluminum sheet used across the U.S. auto industry.
Local outlets reported that a four-alarm fire broke out early Thursday, prompting an immediate emergency response. By 10:15 a.m. ET, officials confirmed the blaze was under control and that all personnel had been safely evacuated, preventing injuries but adding fresh uncertainty for the auto supply chain.
The incident comes at an especially sensitive moment for Ford. Just last month, the company warned that a September fire at the same Novelis facility would cut its fourth-quarter earnings by $1.5 billion to $2 billion. Ford noted it could recover roughly $1 billion of that impact next year, but a second fire raises the risk of deeper production constraints and prolonged material shortages.
Novelis has said that the section of the plant damaged in the September blaze is expected to restart operations next month ā but Thursdayās fire could complicate the recovery timeline depending on the extent of the new damage.
With aluminum playing such a critical role in Fordās trucks, EVs, and higher-margin models, investors are bracing for potential supply-related disruptions as the company works to stabilize its pipeline.
