Why is it important to celebrate and know the history behind Juneteenth?
Juneteenth is a day that commemorates June 19, 1865, when soldiers arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas and announced end of slavery, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was by President Lincoln. It serves as a reminder of the struggles and progress towards equality in American history.
Juneteenth is a holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved people in following the Emancipation Proclamation. It celebrates the value of never giving up hope in uncertain and honors the day when freedom finally arrived for those who were held as slaves in Texas.
Juneteenth marks the day when enslaved individuals in the U.S. were finally informed of their freedom, two years after the Emipation Proclamation was signed by President Lincoln. It is a moment in American history that celebrates progress towards equality.
