“Federal Government Shuts Down as Congress Deadlocks Over Budget — Hundreds of Thousands Affected”🚨🚨🚨
Why the Shutdown Happened🚨
Each fiscal year, Congress must pass appropriation bills (or a short-term “continuing resolution”) to fund federal agencies beginning October 1.
In 2025, Republicans and Democrats failed to agree on spending levels, especially around healthcare subsidies, Medicaid funding, and foreign aid.
The Senate rejected both a GOP-backed stopgap funding measure and a Democratic alternative, leaving no authorized funding in place when the new fiscal year began.
Because no valid appropriation was passed, nonessential federal operations must halt under the law (the Antideficiency Act).
Who Will Be Affected🚨🚨🚨
Up to ~750,000 federal workers may be furloughed (temporarily laid off) without pay during the shutdown.
Some essential workers (e.g. air traffic controllers, TSA agents, military personnel) must continue working without pay until funding is restored.
Many federal programs and services will be disrupted or suspended:
Research labs, health agency work, oversight activities may be paused.
National parks, museums, and monuments—with supporting staff—may close or reduce public access.
Certain federal grant programs, civil rights investigations, or new funding initiatives may be delayed.
Delays in data releases (e.g. employment statistics), and disruptions to contract services or regulatory reviews are likely.
Indirectly, local economies and businesses dependent on federal spending (grants, contracts, procurement) may feel strain.
