“Apple Pushes Back on Musk Lawsuit, Reaffirms AI Expansion Plans” 🚨🚨🚨
AppleAAPL $256.16 (0.60%) is making it clear that its AI ambitions won’t be limited to just one partner. In response to a lawsuit from TeslaTSLA $456.37 (2.62%) CEO Elon Musk, which accused Apple of giving preferential treatment to OpenAI’s ChatGPT on the App Store, Apple filed a dismissal arguing that such claims don’t hold up—because Apple has long stated it intends to work with multiple generative AI chatbots.
The company pointed to comments made at its developer conference last year, when Senior VP of Software Engineering Craig Federighi revealed plans to support other AI models in the future. Currently, Apple allows Siri queries to be routed through ChatGPT, but the iPhone maker has also held talks with Anthropic and GoogleGOOGL $243.16 (0.02%), exploring the possibility of integrating Google’s Gemini into Siri.
Apple’s legal team rejected X Corp.’s argument that partnering with OpenAI meant Apple must automatically partner with all other chatbot developers, stating that antitrust laws don’t impose such requirements.
While Apple has yet to confirm which companies will become official AI partners, the filing underscores that its strategy involves multiple players as it looks to close the gap with rivals in the fast-moving AI race.
