āMeta Gives Facebook Marketplace a Major AI Makeover ā and a Social TwistāšØ
Meta META $605.27 (-0.61%) is giving its popular buy-and-sell platform, Facebook Marketplace, a major refresh aimed at making the experience smarter, more social, and ā ideally ā more appealing to younger users.
According to the company, one in four young adult Facebook users in the U.S. and Canada visit Marketplace daily, making it one of the most trafficked parts of the app. Now, Meta wants to lean into that success with a series of upgrades designed to bring more collaboration and personalization to online resale.
Among the new features: users can now create and share collections of listings, either publicly or with friends, turning casual browsing into a more communal shopping experience. Whether youāre curating vintage sneakers or planning a group furniture hunt, Marketplace wants to make it easier to shop together.
The platform will also begin offering AI-generated suggestions to help buyers know what to ask sellers before making a purchase ā a small but practical step toward smoother transactions. However, Meta isnāt ditching the appās most infamous feature: the default message to sellers, āHi, is this available?ā ā still frustratingly easy to send by accident.
Perhaps the most socially intriguing change: users can now react and comment directly on Marketplace listings, letting buyers share their opinions, reviews, or jokes in real time. It could make for better community feedback ā or just a new frontier for Facebook comedy.
With these updates, Meta is betting that AI-powered insights and a more interactive experience can keep Marketplace a step ahead of its rivals, while giving Facebookās younger crowd a reason to stay logged in.
